My Dad spent most of his enlistment during WWII in Adak Alaska .
I only heard him speak of it one time. It was the end of July 1976.
looking back on that day, I feel like he knew where I was headed. This
site is dedicated to him because he dedicated his life to me. The word Adak is from the Aleut word adaq, which means "father".

I served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to
1980, assigned mainly to aircraft carriers and heavy cruisers. My first
10 years were spent at sea off the coast of North Vietnam at a place
called Yankee Station. where precision mattered, mistakes were
costly, and growing up happened fast. I didn't realize it at the time,
but the Navy taught me adulthood in accelerated time. At the age of 19, I
was put in charge of maintenance of a computer network that spanned the
7th Fleet.
Every
once in a while I hear a song on the radio from a time long past, a
time long forgotten. Sometimes it's the words, sometimes the rhythm, sometimes the back-beat that
sparks a remembrance of where I was or what I was doing, the last time I
heard it. Music
can make me
chuckle or bring a tear to my eyes. Music can inspire me, send me into
an imaginative world of play and happiness or send me into dark
depression.
